OTO is a proud sponsor of Viva’s Holiday, the most exciting opera premiere of the season. Viva is a one-act opera about a Portland stripper going home for the holidays.

Based on Magic Gardens: The Memoirs of Viva Las Vegas, the story combines a local underground heroine’s experiences with lyrical vocal writing and a 12-piece orchestra.

The opera is being produced by Cult of Orpheus, the music production vehicle of composer Christopher Corbell, and features the work of many OTO regulars, including OTO Music Director Erica Melton.

The Cunning Little Vixen

by  Leoš Janáček

JULY  24, 25, 26, 27,  2013 | Wild Goose Farm, Sauvie Island

Happy Bunny and Jay

In July 2013, we invited audience members to immerse themselves in summertime for OTO’s “The Cunning Little Vixen,” bringing together cuisine, opera and dance at Wild Goose Farm on Sauvie Island.

Leos Janácek’s wildly passionate fable celebrates nature’s cycles of birth, love, death and renewal told through the eyes of both humans and animals. Guests are invited to arrive early and enjoy the farm and libations available at the bar tucked among the orchard trees while Czech chanteuse Helena Greathouse and accordionist Mark Greathouse warm up the audience with native folk and cabaret music. Before the performance on July  27, audience members may participate in a Farm-to-Table dinner prepared by celebrated chef Thomas Boyce (formerly of Blue Hour). Wild Goose’s farm suppers are a rare occurrence and a hot ticket (sure to sell out quickly); they were recently featured in The Mighty Gastropolis: Portland in a chapter entitled “Supper Club Renegades.”

Run time 90 minutes. Performed in English translation, accompanied by a sextet of  flute, clarinet, viola, harp, cello and pump organ (arrangements by Melton).
